Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s most famous and iconic wildlife destination, covering nearly 15,000 square kilometers of vast open plains, rolling savannah, rocky kopjes, and riverine forests. Located in northern Tanzania, the park forms the heart of the greater Serengeti ecosystem and is celebrated for its untouched wilderness and extraordinary concentration of wildlife. The name “Serengeti” comes from the Maasai word Siringet, meaning “endless plains,” a fitting description of the sweeping landscapes that stretch to the horizon. This immense protected area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and represents one of the last remaining ecosystems on Earth where large-scale animal migrations and natural predator–prey interactions continue much as they have for thousands of years.
The Serengeti is world-renowned for hosting the Great Migration, one of nature’s most spectacular events. Over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move in a continuous cycle in search of fresh grazing and water, crossing crocodile-filled rivers and predator-rich plains. This movement sustains an impressive population of carnivores, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas, making the Serengeti one of the best places in Africa to witness dramatic hunting scenes. Beyond the migration, the park supports abundant resident wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and over 500 bird species, offering outstanding game viewing throughout the year in every season.
Visiting Serengeti National Park is not only about wildlife, but also about experiencing raw African wilderness at its finest. Game drives reveal golden sunsets, acacia-dotted plains, and dramatic skies that change color with the passing hours. The park offers a range of safari experiences, from classic 4×4 game drives and hot air balloon safaris to luxury lodges and authentic tented camps that place travelers in the heart of nature. Whether visited during the migration season or the quieter months, the Serengeti delivers a powerful sense of space, freedom, and connection to the natural world, making it a once-in-a-lifetime safari destination.
